I am a practicing psychoanalyst and psychotherapist currently working in Davie, Broward County, Florida. I graduated as a psychologist in 1979 from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello (UCAB) in Caracas, Venezuela. After that, I completed a three-year postgraduate degree as a Clinical Psychology from El Peñon Psychiatric Hospital (1982), and as a Psychoanalyst from a five-year training program at the Venezuelan Psychoanalytical Association (ASOVEP), in 1990. I have been a member of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) since 1990, and of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APSAA) and the Florida Psychoanalytic Center since 2004.
Couple and family psychology focuses on the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors of individuals in relationships and in the broader environment in which they function. I help couples and families overcome problems of communication, intimacy, previous family traumas, PTSD, divorce, and processes of separation that affect relationships in order to strengthen and heal these bonds.
I help adults and adolescents achieve a better quality of life by gaining a better understanding of themselves, their pasts, and what drives them. I commonly treat anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, and PTSD in adults. I help adolescents cope with the difficulties of family separation, issues of professional and sexual identity, anxiety, and depression. I help parents of adolescents better understand this process in order to strengthen the parent-child relationship.
I provide supervision services for other therapists to discuss their practice through a psychodynamic perspective. We work together to develop the efficacy of the therapist-patient relationship.
